Welcome Address

Dear African Colleagues

Let us gather our wills, efforts, intensions and knowledge to explore the extent of organ failure problems in our continent. Our peoples are exposed to various environmental, demographic and health risk factors. They are as well under tough socioeconomic situations, paving the way to the high prevalence of communicable and non-communicable diseases. In the mean time, the lack of satisfactory preventive and early detection strategies with inefficient management to delay disease progression, leads to cumulative end stage organ failure.

We are looking forward for our collaboration to propagate practicing transplantation as the most efficient and valuable cost benefit replacement therapy option for organ failure. This is rarely feasible to our African peoples, and we need to bridge the unmet needs, targeting the best outcome and quality of life for our patients.

The development of the African Society of Organ Transplantation (ASOT) is an urgent need to implement and establish complimentary integrated best practice transplantation services. The exchange of knowledge and experience among experts would improve our practice. Our educational role is of paramount importance to spread the transplantation practice to our African colleagues to deliver the utmost care to our patients.

Increasing the awareness among the community, health care givers and decision makers is a crucial mission. The advocacy for adoption of this practice with cooperation for the development of the principles of altruistic organ donation; whether living or deceased; for organ supply and abandoning organ trading and trafficking should be our target.

It is a long way, but together we will be powerful and achieve actual successes. The contributions of international institutes and figures would be a real supportive asset and always welcomed.

Best wishes and long live Africa.
